An interesting Thing happened in America today in relation to Mermaids:

There is no evidence that mermaids exist, a US government scientific agency has said.

The National Ocean Service made the unusual declaration in response to public enquiries following a TV show on the mythical creatures.
It is thought some viewers may have mistaken the programme for a documentary.
"No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found," the service wrote in an online post.
The National Ocean Service posted an article last week on its educational website, Ocean Facts.
Images and tales of mermaids - half-human, half-fish - appear in mythology and art from across the world and through history, from Homer's Odyssey to the oral lore of the Australian aboriginals, the service wrote.
The article was written from publicly available sources because "we don't have a mermaid science programme", National Ocean Service spokeswoman Carol Kavanagh told the BBC.
She said that at least two people had written to the agency asking about the creatures.
The enquiries followed May's broadcast of Mermaids: The Body Found, on the Discovery Channel's Animal Planet network.
The programme was a work of fiction but its wink-and-nod format apparently led some viewers to believe it was a science education show, the Discovery Channel has acknowledged.

Lovely Thought

I ussually use this blog as a place to expose frauds or show a logical perspective on something not so logical.but i thought i would share this as its furthor more proof that logic and maths can create something lovely. so my follwers have a cake on me......

"Herman Cake is a cake which you pass along in the set period of time, which continues to grow as it contains yeast. Herman sits on the worktop for ten days altogether, and due to the amount of yeast that it contains, smells distinctly of beer. The Herman cake can 'breathe' when covered loosely with a tea-towel and left out on the worktop and stirred occasionally. This 'breathing' occurs because of the yeast in the Herman cake, and the cake mixture bubbles frequently.
When a person receives Herman from a friend, he will be presented to them in a small plastic tub along with a set of instructions to guide this person through the next ten days with the Herman cake mixture. On the ninth day, Herman is divided into four equal parts and three of these parts are passed along to friends. The last quarter is kept and on the tenth day is cooked. Many ingredients can be added to Herman before the procedure of cooking the Herman cake. These ingredients can vary from chocolate, apples, and cherries to make Herman sweet or olives and sun-dried tomatoes for a savoury taste.
On the basis that each Herman creates 4 small Hermans, of which one is turned into a cake and three are given away, it has been considered that in 227 days and 8 hours the entire world population could have grown, cooked and eaten their own Herman Cake."

Proof that logic is needed! (continued)

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Court officials in Zimbabwe say two self-confessed witches who claim to have flown on a magical grain threshing basket are to undergo medical and psychiatric examinations.
Prosecutors said Thursday two women were arrested earlier this month after they were found naked in the yard of a home in the town of Chinhoyi, 110 kilometers (70 miles) northeast of Harare. The women are charged under witchcraft laws carrying the penalty of a fine.
In local belief, the flat, traditional hand-held winnowing basket is equivalent to a witch's broomstick in Western fable.
Officials said a Chinhoyi court on Wednesday set another hearing for July 11 to hear medical reports and testimony from tribal healers.
The middle aged women claimed the basket "ditched" them in the yard after a naked night ritual nearby.
Belief in witchcraft and tribal superstition is common in Zimbabwe."

Proof that logic is needed!

Here is a sad yet intresting story which shows why logic thinking is needed in are lives the BBC news report go's as follows:

"A Saudi man has been beheaded on charges of sorcery and witchcraft, the state news agency SPA says.

The man, Muree bin Ali bin Issa al-Asiri, was found in possession of books and talismans, SPA said. He had also admitted adultery with two women, it said.
The execution took place in the southern Najran province, SPA reported.
Human rights groups have repeatedly condemned executions for witchcraft in Saudi Arabia.
Last year, there were reports of at least two people being executed for sorcery.
Mr Asiri was beheaded after his sentence was upheld by the country's highest courts, the Saudi news agency website said.
No details were given of what he was found guilty of beyond the charges of witchcraft and sorcery.
Amnesty International says the country does not formally classify sorcery as a capital offence.
But the BBC's Arab Affairs Editor, Sebastian Usher, says there is a very strong prohibition of some practices from the country's powerful conservative religious leaders.
Some, he explains, have repeatedly called for the strongest possible punishments against anyone suspected of sorcery - whether they are fortune tellers or faith healers.
In 2010, a Lebanese television presenter of a popular fortune-telling programme was arrested while on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
Though sentenced to death, after pressure from his government and human rights groups, he was freed by the Saudi Supreme Court, which found that he had not harmed anyone.
More recent cases of death on charges of sorcery include that of a Saudi woman, executed for committing sorcery and witchcraft in December, in the northern province of Jawf, and that of a Sudanese man executed in September, despite calls led by Amnesty International for his release."

If logic isnt used to stop frauds and charlatons it can at least be used to save people being killed for riduculas claims.

Next step in cold reading!

This is an intresting stroy of Alan Rice, a student in Ireland who became suspicious about some of the photos displayed as 'Live psychics' to be called at €2.44/min on Irish TV. He used image searches to find photos of some of the 'psychics' on stock photo sites.

as he says here:"Psychic Pat was in fact a bought stock photo! I quickly tweeted about this and from that I was pointed to the boards.ie thread about the show where I posted the same photos. Things certainly took off from there and some wonderful people there started finding pretty much all the psychics listed on their website from various places around the internet including, from what I gather, a personal Flickr photo. It really begs the question who are you talking to? And in some cases from what I’ve read you only get through to a hold message."


 so these "Psychics" not only use varuis open statements and trickery they also fake what they look like. i would say to anyone who does believe are these the moves of trustworthy people? and if so is it realy worth  €2.44/min to see your future? because if you just have a quick snooze tommorrow will already be here.

hypnotism gone wrong! (best exuse ever!)

An interesting news story from all-girl College du Sacre-Coeur in Sherbooke, Quebec. they hired a newbie Hypnotist. 20 year old Maxime Nadeauto preform a end of year hypnotist show. he preformed one for the staff only a few weeks before with no problems but something accrued when doing it to the school children.

After a well received  show,he couldn't "untrance" some of the girls,they were not actually volunteers either but rather some of the crowd.
According to witnesses, several girls who’d been sitting at nearby tables watching the show had also been ‘put under’, had their heads lying on their tables and seemed a little out of it.
One girl seemed to be in a trance-like state for five hours when the 20 year-old hypnotist decided to call his mentor who lived about an hour away.


He came and successfully "untranced" the girls, he then in this excerpt learn the reason why (and i must say it is a great excuse) “After travelling for one hour, Whitbread used a stern voice to awaken the girls, blaming his trainee’s good looks for the students’ hypnotic states.” some of the girls said they  "were complaining of nausea and headaches. One girl even claimed it was like an out-of-body experience. the head of the school said after the event. “We also wish to gather all relevant information before talking to the media about this unfortunate event which, fortunately, did not leave any consequences.’



I would personally like to say i have been doing Hypnotism for sometime,and it isn't likely that you will get Nausea or headaches,you might however get those symptoms if you awake from a relaxed state (i prefer that term as it is far more realistic than calling it a "trance") and there is panic everywhere. also the O.B.E out-of-body experience. (which by explaining it kinda defeats the point of just calling it an O.B.E) can also be explained scientifically but i think i will do a separate post purely on that.

in my personal experience,i have never had such problems................is that a good thing or?!?
